Vegetarians, vegans and the plant-based curious… unite! Roughly 10% of London’s population now follows a meat-free lifestyle, equating to approximately 840,000 people. That’s a lot of animal lovers!

If you’re heading to London soon and want to make sure there are plenty of eatery options to suit your dietary requirement, you’re in luck. The capital is home to some of the country’s (and arguably the world’s) best vegetarian and vegan restaurants. As the plant-based lifestyle is growing so rapidly in popularity in the UK, and in London in particular, most good quality restaurants will also cater to your needs.

If you’re looking for accommodation in Paddington, taking advantage of The Chilworth’s London Hotels Special Offers, especially if you’re a fan of plant-based food. There are a wealth of options right on your doorstep, and even inside the Chilworth Hotel London

We’ve chosen some of our favourite vegan-friendly restaurants (meaning they’ll obviously cater to veggies, too) to add to your list for your trip.

Farmacy – Westbourne Grove

Starting with something healthy and wholesome (perhaps unsurprisingly!), Farmacy opened their flagship restaurant in Notting Hill back in 2016. Since then, they’ve compiled an abundant menu, alive with really delicious and healthy seasonal food to be enjoyed in their relaxing surroundings. Everything you’ll find on the menu is plant-based, free from dairy, refined sugars, additives and chemicals.

All of their ingredients are either grown on the farm they own or are sourced from local, sustainable and environmentally mindful suppliers. Therefore, the restaurant is a true supporter of local, London farming.

Temple of Seitan – Euston

Now for something shall we say… not quite so healthy! Temple of Seitan is the UK’s first 100% vegan fried ‘chicken’ shop, with a whopping, indulgent menu you’re likely to find in the standard chicken shops on the high street, all with a plant-based twist.

They currently have two locations, one in Camden and one Hackney – which was the original site. As with most chip shops, don’t expect to nab one of the very few seats, but do expect to queue. But most importantly, expect to leave very happy, and very full.

Redemption – Bayswater

Moving back to the world of healthy vegan food, Redemption aimed to create the world’s healthiest bar-restaurant, serving up vegan, sugar-free and wheat-free food with an alcohol-free bar. Their ethos? Spoil yourself without spoiling yourself.

They have three sites – one in Bayswater, Shoreditch and Seven Dials, so you can get your healthy fix of homemade salads, burgers, smoothie bowls and lots more throughout the city. You’ll leave feeling as if you’ve just stepped out of a health retreat!

The Chilworth Hotel London – Paddington

If you’re after something that offers a truly authentic, British experience, you’ve no doubt started researching the Best Afternoon Tea in London, which is somewhat of a British institution. However, despite the growing popularity of the diet, it can still require a little digging to find one that caters to a wide variety of dietary requirements, including veganism.

You’ll be pleased to know there is a good number available now, particularly towards central London.

The Chilworth Hotel London is a favourite for both our guests and locals as there are a number of different options on the menu that can cater to vegans, especially the Indian Afternoon Tea option – an exotic, modern twist on a classic. You could even upgrade to include something fizzy to enjoy sipping on, as well as the classic pot of tea if you’re celebrating something exciting or just fancy treating yourself.

Ethos – Fitzrovia

Ethos is a self-service restaurant located in the heart of central London, just a stone’s throw away from Oxford Circus. They specialise in deliciously different, meat-free and plant-based cuisine that tastes as good as it is for you, and just as good as it looks!

Heading to the world-famous Selfridges department store on Oxford Street? Keep your eyes peeled as all-new Ethos dishes will be available to purchase in the food hall from September 2019, meaning you can shop till you drop, then refuel.

Young Vegans Pie Shop – Camden

The ULTIMATE in comfort food whether you’re vegan or not is definitely a pie, and Young Vegans Pie Shop has made this haven available for those avoiding meat. If you’re off to experience the buzzing district of Camden, make sure to swing by the market and pay these guys a visit.

The menu consists of a range of different pies, available to buy there and then, loaded up with a range of tasty sides, or you could even purchase one of the pies online to cook at home if you end up falling in love with London so much you decide to move here!

Java U – Paddington

Like the city of Montreal that sparked it, the java u brand uniquely combines the best of North American spirit and convenience with the timeless elements of European style. The result is a hip, modern experience delivered with friendly fun and originality. And like Montreal, java u does all this with flawless presentation…and with surprising charm.

It’s not a vegan or vegetarian cafe, but they offer a range of plant-based meals that will delight the veggies of the group. There’s also plenty of dairy-alternative kinds of milk on the menu if you’re dying for a milky latte, too.

Darcie and May Green – Paddington

Darcie & May Green, located right outside Paddington Station on the Grand Union Canal, are floating pieces of art, designed solely by the ‘godfather’ of British pop art, Sir Peter Blake.

May Green opens in the early hours of the morning (serving up breakfast favourites including flawlessly executed flat whites and banana bread) to the late hours of the evening (where it becomes a buzzing bar with nine local craft beers on tap and live music). Darcie Green provides the perfect setting for canal-side dining, serving Aussie inspired brunch options, healthy lunch and relaxing dinners – all with plenty of vegan and veggie options. With an Antipodean-inspired menu, dishes are bold, fresh and comforting.
